Mike Barnes is a Professor  in the power conversion group in the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. He received the BEng and PhD degrees from the University of Warwick, Coventry, UK in 1993 and 1998 respectively, where he was also a research associate and then lecturer. He joined the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST, now the University of Manchester) in 1997 as a lecturer in power electronics, and has developed research interests in advanced drives and power electronic interfaces for utility systems. He is an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications.
