• Introductory programme for first year students

The Mathematics Diagnostic test:

In Welcome Week, students will be asked to sit a short test in order to determine the appropriate lecture course, tutorial group, whether they appear to be underachieving on any particular topic and also to gauge the general mathematical profile of the group. This test should NOT be seen as daunting in any sense. We have found that many students wish to see a ’mock’ test and other associated material available on the following link.

Tool Kit

All students will need to have a basic set of tools, the essential items being: side cutters (small), snipe nose pliers (small), wire stripper and cutter, flat blade screwdriver (3mm blade width), flat blade screwdriver (5mm blade width), cross-head screwdriver (No. 1), and stripboard cutter.

The School does offer a basic toolkit at cost price, and this is typically very similar to the Zip Wallet Tool Kit (Part No. 85-0055) from Rapid Electronics.  This will be available to purchase from reception when you arrive.

Crucial Guide Live contains essential information for new and existing students of the University of Manchester. This includes information on registration and can be found on Student Net.

Students from Overseas

As a new overseas student you are likely to have lots of questions about living and studying in Manchester. We have a number of services to answer your concerns about travelling to Manchester and to help you settle into your new life as quickly and easily as possible.

- Arrival Guide

The arrival guide contains detailed information that will be useful when preparing your trip to Manchester, such as planning what to bring, the cost of living, health care and much more.

- Orientation

The orientation programme includes presentations, tours and social events to equip you with everything you will need to begin your studies at Manchester. The majority of events are organised by current students.

- Airport Pickup Service

The University also offers an airport pick-up service. You should book this service by 9th September to guarantee a place.
