The industry involvements and research outputs of Manchester attracted me to the university.
Project title: Multi-Terminal VSC-HVDC Networks-Grid Control
Funded by: Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC)
Before I joined Power Conversion as a Research Associate …
Before joining the Power Conversions group I worked as a postdoctoral research fellow in the School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering, The University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia (July 2013-August 2014).
I believe that working as a RA for a couple of years is necessary to develop my career in research, with the aim of eventually becoming a faculty member. The industry involvements and research outputs of Manchester attracted me to the university.
Tell us a little about your position and project …
The project involves analysis and modelling of many challenging and current issues involved with National Grid, UK, which I enjoy a lot.
The main responsibilities of the position are:
- Develop a suitable candidate model for multi-terminal VSC-HVDC for tapping North-Sea wind resources to UK National Grid.
- Propose a comprehensive control combination for such multi-terminal DC grid.
- M. Eng teaching and research supervision.
Any advice for students considering entering research?
Be confident on your achievements as well as keep some room to admit that there is a lot to know.
