We offer several postgraduate courses leading to the degree of MSc by Examination and Dissertation. You will attend formal lectures with advanced practical work which is then examined. If your examination performance is satisfactory you will then work on a research or design project, and must submit a dissertation on this project before the first anniversary of starting the course.
In 2006 our taught MSc courses were approved by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). In addition the Advances Control and Systems Engineering course is accredited by the Institute of Measurement and Control (Inst.MC)
The MSc courses running in the School are listed below, select the course name for more details of its content.

Electrical Energy Conversion Systems
Starting from the fundamentals of electrical machines and power electronic energy conversion, the course shows how complete electrical systems may be designed and analysed. Example applications include more-electric aircraft and ships, electric vehicles, micro-grids and autonomous power systems.
Renewable Energy and Clean Technology
This MSc course will provide you with both the theoretical underpinning necessary to fully understand the principles of renewable energy generation and the practical knowledge required to develop and exploit these technologies.
Advanced Control and Systems Engineering
Covers control theory and information technology relevant to a vast area of engineering endeavour, including regulation and supervision of huge chemical plants, the design of control systems used in automotive systems and aircraft, and medical technology.
Communication Engineering
Studies all aspects of communication, from the design of their constituent parts through to the realisation of particular systems. The course covers digital transmission systems, digital signal processing (DSP), radio frequency devices, and design techniques to millimetric wavelengths.
Digital Image and Signal Processing
This course empowers students with skills in digital signal and image processing. Subjects include signal acquisition systems, embedded system design, digital signal and image processing, image engineering and tomographic image reconstruction. The taught course is accompanied by exciting experiments which use state-of-the-art equipment.
Electrical Power Systems Engineering
This course aims to satisfy the needs of industry in electrical energy research, development and application, and the education and training of electrical energy engineers. This course covers power systems, sustainable electricity and power system economics.
