Power System Analysis, Operation & Economics
Operation and analysis of power systems in the modern deregulared marketplace is a theme of research heavily linked with the strong growth in the use of distributed generation in the UK. We are involved in power system optimisation, integration of dispersed generation, power system dynamics and power quality.
Leading faculty members:
Prof Jovica V Milanovic
Power system dynamics, power quality, integration of embedded generation
Dr Joseph Multale
Renewable and distributed energy systems, distribution network planning, rural electrification
Current research projects:
- Agent-based modelling for generation investment
- Distribution network pricing with distributed generation
- Cost evaluation of low power quality events
- Transmission expansion in a competitive environment
- Provision of ancillary services
- Characterisation and coordination of demand-side participation for network support and regulation
- Optimisation of power system operation with large-scale penetration of renewable energy resources
