Wireless Communications

The Communication Engineering Group is involved in research into a wide range of communication topics including advanced wireless networks, radio system design, digital signal processing, radar, coding and signal analysis Wireless Systems Our interests lie in the analysis and design of wireless networks with particular focus on the physical, network and medium access control layers.

The continuing increase in demand for all types of wireless services, including Voice, Video, Internet and E-mail data etc, is fuelling the need for higher data-transmission rates. As the available radio spectrum is becoming increasingly scarce and overcrowded, in order to meet the future data rate requirements it is necessary to develop new techniques and algorithms that are capable of providing more efficient use of the available spectrum. Some popular examples include smart antennas in the form of multiple input multiple output (MIMO) technology, adaptive modulation and coding, high-performance practical multi-user detection receivers as well as advanced ad hoc network protocols and networks integration techniques.
