The Group places a strong emphasis on the practical testing & validation of new techniques & therefore has extensive, well maintained facilities.
Our three recently refurbished laboratories offer a modern & comfortable working environment, & we are well equipped with network, impedance & power analysers, oscilloscopes & current probes.
The facilities include:
Large-scale Test Rigs
- 100 kW aircraft-electrical systems rig (IEPNEF)
- Fault current limiter crystat
- Condition monitoring DFIG
- Marine rim drive thrusters
- Electro-mechanical interactions DFIG
- Calorimeter for high precision measurement of machine losses
- 30 kW interface back-to-back converter for offshore wind farms and HVDC applications
- Electric go-kart
- Multi-phase synchronous generator for aircraft power systems
Small-scale Test Rigs
- 30 kW six-phase interleaved DC/DC fuel cell interface converter
- 30 kW fuel cell / supercapicitor converter for land vehicles
- Low-temperature power electronics cryostat
- 30 kW dual-active bridge DC/DC converter for aircraft
- 8 x 2 kW generator sets lab for taught course
