Experience at the University

I’m thrilled with the experiences gained so far while reading for a PhD in the University of Manchester. I opted for the University of Manchester due to its excellent track record in world-class research, and the strong ties it has developed with the industry. Students benefit from the highly reputed academic staff of the University and the exemplary research supervision provided.

My work presently deals with aircraft electrical power generation and control in future more-electric aircrafts. The core of the research is done in the power conversion research group, which deals with power conversion of electrical machines and drives. I’m fortunate to have to deal with aspects of control engineering as my research also encompasses an element of control. As a result I have been unconditionally assisted by staff of the control systems research group in addition to regular supervision. This has made the research much more interesting, and has enabled me to perceive the broader view of engineering.

The library facilities provided by the University of Manchester are one of the best within UK. The multiple libraries of the University process a vast range of books and electronic resources that offer students the ease of resource accessibility, thus fostering a culture in reading and self learning. Postgraduate students of Engineering and Physical Sciences benefit from a personal and professional development program offered by the University. The program named Graduate Development Scheme (GraDS) aims to develop research skills and future employability of postgraduate students. This program has proven to be very useful and has been instrumental in channelling research students in the appropriate path for success.

During the next two years I intend to advance further on my research and moreover utilize the opportunities provided by the University of Manchester to develop skills that are essential for the future progress of my career.
