Degrees With Industrial Experience
All our degree programmes can be combined with an accredited year-long industrial placement for the award of a 'With Industrial Experience' degree. Students on these extended programmes spend a year in industry between their second and third years.
There are many reasons why we encourage students to spend a period in industry during their undergraduate degree programme. A period in industry will develop your business, teamworking and transferable skills - all of which are sought after by graduate employers. Industrial experience will increase your awareness of the broad range of careers on offer and guide your choice of option subjects. Industrial placements can also be accredited by the The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) towards the training required for attaining Chartered Engineer status.
We have strong links with industry and students are able to find industrial placements with high profile companies such as BNFL, BT, Hewlett Packard, IBM, Logica, LSI Logic, Lucas Verity, Motorola, Nortel Networks, BAE Systems, National Instruments, Ove Arup, Siemens plc and Texas Instruments.
The School employs a full-time Industrial Experince Courses Manager who will help you find a suitable placement and develop your application. The Industrial Experince Courses Manager will also monitor your progress and offer you guidance during your placement.
Students may also arrange summer vacation industrial placements without registering for a 'With Industrial Experience' degree. These placements may then be considered for the award of the 'Certificate of Industrial Experience'.
