Experience at the University
I knew from an early age I wanted to have a career in electricity. So at high school I picked the closest thing: Systems Technology. From there I went on to study an AVCE in Engineering at Leeds College of Technology, which was a mixture of academic and practical topics from a variety of Engineering disciplines.
I then decided that I wanted to go to university where I completed an Engineering Foundation Year followed by a bachelors’ degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at The University of Manchester. During my first year of the degree, I was sponsored by CE Electric UK under the IET's Power Academy scheme Robert Waters where I completed three summer placements in the Asset Management and System Design section of the Distribution Network Operator.
During my final year of the bachelors’ degree, I opted to specialise further by doing an MSc in Electrical Power Systems Engineering the following year, also at the University of Manchester. I chose the degree for its worldwide reputation and the specialised skills it will provide me with for the entirety of my career.
Five years after beginning my university career, I am now starting my working career on a Graduate Training Program with CE Electric UK, well placed within the power industry with a world of opportunities ahead.
