Research impact

Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Manchester in top 3 in UK for research that makes an impact

The relevance and impact of university research is becoming increasingly important. As Engineers we have a strong effect on our economy and on society as a whole.

For the first time an assessment of research impact has been introduced as part of a national audit of research excellence called the Research Excellence Framework (REF).

Results from this assessment have just been published and the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering was ranked in the top three of all institutions in our discipline for impact- a clear indication of the importance and relevance of our research.

Overall, on REF criteria based on research power - a measure of quality times the size of submission - we ranked 4th in our discipline.
