Professional biography

I received the BEng degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Bristol, UK in 1987, followed by an MSc in Microwaves and Modern Optics from University College London, UK in 1989. In 2001, I received a Ph.D. in optical tomography from UMIST, UK.

I joined Sifam Ltd in UK in 1989 and then Bookham Technology in 1996 working on optical fibre components. In 1998, I joined UMIST (now University of Manchester) developing a near infra-red absorption tomography system. From 2001-2009, I developed systems for high frequency ultrasound transducers.

Currently I am developing systems for operation with the SCAMP-3 vision chip and developing the chip’s successor.

Specific research interests

Analogue electronics design and analogue IC design for ultrasonic devices and vision chips. I am also interested in system level ultrasound scanner design, digital design (VHDL), optics, image reconstruction, optical and acoustic modelling, and in general, design methods for polymeric (PVDF) ultrasound devices.
