The following are some of our country-specific requirements for entry into the first year of an Electrical and Electronic Engineering degree. If your qualification is not listed, then please contact our admissions team for further information. The entry requirements listed below are for September 2026 entry and are subject to review each academic year.

Canada

Qualification
Alberta High School Diploma

Entrance requirements for all undergraduate courses
Award of High School Diploma with at least five grade 12 courses numbered 30 or 31, including:

  • 90% in grade 12 Mathematics or Calculus (including grade 12 AP Calculus AB)
  • 85% in grade 12 Physics or Chemistry
  • 85% in three further academic subjects

Acceptable English language qualifications include:

  • 70% or grade B achieved in the High School Diploma, provided grades 10-12 have been studied in Canada.

Qualification
British Columbia Certificate of Graduation

Entrance requirements for all undergraduate courses
Award of British Columbia Certificate of Graduation with at least five grade 12 subjects, including:

  • 90% in grade 12 Mathematics or Calculus (including grade 12 AP Calculus AB)
  • 85% in grade 12 Physics or Chemistry
  • 85% in three further academic subjects

Acceptable English language qualifications include:

  • 70% or grade B achieved in the High School Diploma, provided grades 10-12 have been studied in Canada.

Manitoba High School Graduation Diploma

Entrance requirements for all undergraduate courses
Award of High School Graduation Diploma with at least five grade 12 courses at 400 (university entrance course) level, including:

  • 90% in grade 12 Mathematics or Calculus (including grade 12 AP Calculus AB)
  • 85% in grade 12 Physics or Chemistry
  • 85% in three further academic subjects

Acceptable English language qualifications include:

  • 70% or grade B achieved in the High School Diploma, provided grades 10-12 have been studied in Canada.

New Brunswick High School Graduation Diploma

Entrance requirements for all undergraduate courses

China

Qualification

Senior High School Diploma

Entrance requirements for all undergraduate courses

Applicants who have completed the Senior High School Diploma and are undertaking a foundation year or year 1 of undergraduate studies in a relevant discipline, can be considered for first year entry. We require 85% average (or 3.4 GPA) from High School grades 11-12, including 80% average in Maths and Physics. The foundation year or undergraduate studies must be awarded by a recognised institution and include a significant maths component. Qualifications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.  

Applicants may be considered without foundation or undergraduate studies, if the Senior High School Diploma is taken alongside AP examinations. Entry requirements include 85% average (or 3.4 GPA) from High School grades 11-12, plus: 

  • Grades 5,5,5 in AP Calculus AB (subscore not accepted), AP Physics C, and one further AP test 

or 

  • Grades 5,5,5 in Calculus BC (subscore not accepted), and either AP Physics C, Physics 1, Physics 2, or Chemistry, and one further AP test 

France

Qualification

Diplôme du Baccalauréat Général or Option International du Baccalauréat (OIB) / Baccalauréat Français International (BFI)

Entrance requirements for all undergraduate courses

Award of Baccalauréat Général with an average of 16/20 including:

  • A minimum of 16/20 in the final year of Specialty Mathematics, which must be studied in both Premiere and Terminale
  • A minimum of 15/20 in the final year of one of Specialty Engineering Sciences, Digital and Computer Sciences, or Physics and Chemistry, which must be studied in both Premiere and Terminale

Option International du Baccalauréat (OIB) / Baccalauréat Français International (BFI) with an average of 15/20 including:

  • A minimum of 15/20 in the final year of Specialty Mathematics, which must be studied in both Premiere and Terminale
  • A minimum of 14/20 in the final year of one of Specialty Engineering Sciences, Digital and Computer Sciences, or Physics and Chemistry, which must be studied in both Premiere and Terminale

Acceptable English language qualifications include:

  • 15/20 in the Baccalauréat Général (English must be taken as one of the two Foreign Languages and not as an additional option)
  • 12/20 in OIB or BFI English (including English Literature)

Germany

Qualification

Zeugnis der Allgemeinen Hochschulreife (Abitur)

Entrance requirements for all undergraduate courses

Award of Abitur with an overall grade of 1.3 or lower including:

  • Mathematics studied at Leistungskurse/Kurse mit erhöhtem Anforderungsniveau level at grade 14
  • Physics or Chemistry studied at Leistungskurse/Kurse mit erhöhtem Anforderungsniveau level at grade 13

Acceptable English language qualifications include:

  • 13 in English

Greece

Qualification

Upper Secondary School Leaving Certificate (Apolytirio Genikou Lykeiou)

Entrance requirements for all undergraduate courses

Award of National Apolytirion with an average of 19/20, along with the following external qualifications:

  • Grade A* in A-level Mathematics OR 19/20 in the Panhellenic examinations in Mathematics

And

  • Grade A in A-level science OR 19/20 in a a Panhellenic examination in Physics or Chemistry.

Hong Kong

Qualification

Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE)

Entrance requirements for all undergraduate courses

Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education with 5*555 including:

  • 5* in Core Mathematics
  • 5 in either M1 (Calculus and Statistics) or M2 (Algebra and Calculus)
  • 5 in Physics or Chemistry
  • 5 in a fourth subject, excluding Liberal Studies or Citizenship and Social Development

Acceptable English language qualifications include:

  • HKDSE Core English at level 5

India

Qualification

Higher Secondary Certificate (Standard 12)

Entrance requirements for all undergraduate courses

Grade XII examinations awarded by CBSE or ISC National Boards with:

  • An average of 90%, including 90% in Mathematics (not Applied Maths) and 85% in Physics or Chemistry

Grade XII examinations awarded by West Bengal State Board with:

  • An average of 85%, inc. 85% in Mathematics (not Applied Maths) and 80% in Physics or Chemistry

Grade XII examinations awarded by Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra or Tamil Nadu State Boards with:

  • An average of 95%, 95% in Mathematics (not Applied Maths) and 90% in Physics or Chemistry

Acceptable English language qualifications include:

  • 85% in India Standard XII (Standard 12) English (NOT 'Functional English') if it is from either National Boards (CBSE or ISC) 

Ireland

Qualification

Irish Leaving Certificate

Entrance requirements for all undergraduate courses

Irish Leaving Certificate with five academic subjects at grades H1, H1, H1, H1, H2, including H1 in Mathematics and H1 in one science subject, from Physics, Applied Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics & Chemistry, and Computer Science. 

Acceptable English language qualifications include:  

  • Irish Leaving Certificate Ordinary Level English language grade 3 
  • Irish Leaving Certificate Higher Level English language grade 4 (taught in English) 

Italy

Qualification

Diploma di Esame di Stato

Entrance requirements for all undergraduate courses

Award of Diploma di Esame di Stato with an average of 95% including:

  • 10 in Mathematics final year School exam
  • 9 in Physics or Chemistry final year School exam

Qualification must be studied at a Liceo Scientifico (scientific secondary school).

Malaysia

Qualification

Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (Malaysia Higher School Certificate) or Matrikulasi (Matriculation Certificate)

Entrance requirements for all undergraduate courses

  • AAA in three STPM subjects including Mathematics and either Chemistry or Physics

Or

  • Matrikulasi with an overall GPA of 3.6 and grades AAAA, including grade A in Mathematics, and A in Physics or Chemistry, and AA in two further academic subjects 

Acceptable English language qualifications include:

  • Malaysian O Level English language (1119) at grade B
  • SPM English C1 or higher

Please note we do not accept Polytechnic or Technical Diploma qualifications as an alternative to the requirements listed above./p>

Poland

Dojrzalosci (Certificate of Maturity)

Entrance requirements for all undergraduate courses

Award of the Matura with an overall average of 75% including:

  • 90% in extended Mathematics and 85% in either extended Physics or Chemistry

Romania

Qualification

Diploma de Bacalaureat

Entrance requirements for all undergraduate courses

Award of the Diploma de Bacalaureat with an overall average of 9.0 including: 

  • 9.5 in Mathematics written examination, 9.0 in Physics written examination, and one further subject at 9.0 

Singapore

Qualification

Singapore/Cambridge GCE A level

Entrance requirements for all undergraduate courses

AAA in three A-Level subjects including Mathematics, and one from either Physics, Electronics, Further Mathematics, Chemistry or Computing

Please not we do not accept Polytechnic Diploma Qualifications as an alternative to the requirements listed above.

South Africa

Qualification

South African National Senior Certificate (NSC)

Entrance requirements for all undergraduate courses

Award of the South African National Senior Certificate with grades 77776 including:

  • 7 in Mathematics (please note we do not accept Mathematicsl Literacy)
  • 7 in Physical Science.

Acceptable English language qualifications include:

  • 6 in English Home Language

Spain

Qualification

Título de Bachiller

Entrance requirements for all undergraduate courses

Award of Titulo of Bachiller including: 

  • An average of 9.5 overall 
  • 9.5 in Mathematics in both years 
  • 9.0 in Physics or Chemistry in both years 
  • 9.0 in one other subject 

Turkey

Qualification

Turkish Lise Diplomasi (MEB)

Entrance requirements for all undergraduate courses

Award of the Lise Diplomasi (MEB) from a private high school on The University of Manchester’s approved list, with an overall average of 87% from grades 11-12, including 87% in each of Grade 12 Mathematics, and 85% in Grade 12 Physics or Chemistry.  

Applicants applying with this qualification awarded by a school not on the list approved by The University of Manchester can be considered for our Integrated Foundation Year only, unless taken alongside AP examinations. Entry requirements for first year entry include the Lise Diplomasi (MEB) with 87% overall average from grades 11-12, plus: 

  • Grades 5,5,5 in AP Calculus AB (subscore not accepted), AP Physics C, and one further AP test 

Or

  • Grades 5,5,5 in Calculus BC (subscore not accepted), and either AP Physics C, Physics 1, Physics 2, or Chemistry, and one further AP test 

United States of America

Qualification

High School Graduation Diploma

Entrance requirements for all undergraduate courses

Award of the US High School Graduation Diploma with overall GPA of 3.2 from grades 10-12, plus: 

  • Grades 5,5,5 in AP Calculus AB (subscore not accepted), AP Physics C, and one further AP test 

Or 

  • Grades 5,5,5 in Calculus BC (subscore not accepted), and either AP Physics C, Physics 1, Physics 2, or Chemistry, and one further AP test 

If applicant has already achieved 5,5 in AP Calculus and Physics/Chemistry (respective to the combinations listed above) in grade 11, entry requirements will be as follows: 

  • Award of the US High School Graduation Diploma with overall GPA of 3.2 
  • Grade A in an Advanced Placement class in one further academic subject from the fall semester of Year 12. 

Acceptable English language qualifications include:  

  • Grade B achieved in the High School Graduation Diploma provided years 10-12 have been studied in the USA 
  • Grade 4 in AP English Language and Composition
